This weeks “Bicycle of the Week” is UAE Team Emirates and Tadej Pogacar’s 2024 Colnago V4Rs. It’s all new for 2024. Interesting to note, the V4Rs is the fastest monocoque ever designed by the Italian brand. Colnago states that this new design can excel in any terrain. Additionally, this unique bike was developed with a partnership with Team UAE Emirates and Colnago.

Colnago emphasizes that input from team riders played a crucial role in aiding the research and development division. Specifically, they pinpointed areas for improvement such as stiffness, geometry, weight, reliability, and aerodynamics.

The Colnago Cockpit CC.01 boasts a drag surface reduced by up to 16% compared to the cockpits mounted on V3Rs. In a real race setup, the company observed an aerodynamic saving of 3% compared to the V3Rs, equating to approximately 13.2 watts with a rider traveling at 50 kph in a wind tunnel test.

COLNAGO’S NEW HEADSET GEOMETRY

The headtube geometry has undergone a significant revision, seamlessly integrating with the new lightweight fork and the updated cockpit. Notably, they enlarged the head set upper bearings compared to the V3Rs model, enabling internal cable routing without requiring a D-shaped steerer column.

This enhancement not only enhances aesthetics but also strengthens front-end stability. Despite these advancements, Colnago has refined the overall shape of the headtube to minimize drag, thereby improving aerodynamic performance.

In regards to the handlebar, cyclists can appreciate the HB R41, fashioned from lightweight carbon fiber. This design incorporates internal hose and cable routing, guaranteeing a sleek and uncluttered appearance. Furthermore, its smooth wing top section offers numerous hand positions, prioritizing rider comfort during the journey.
