This weeks “Bicycle of the Week” is the COLNAGO C35 Ferrari Gold, Campagnolo C Record Oro. Rumor has it, Colnago was first turned on to the idea of working with Ferrari after Eddy Merckx’s Hour record ride in 1972.
Interestingly, the C35 was made to celebrate Colnago’s 35 years, and it’s known for its cool design and great craftsmanship. Important to realize, It didn’t race much at the top level, but it’s super important. Specifically, it brought in new tech for bikes. Even though it didn’t win a ton, its unique style and limited numbers make it a big deal for bike fans.
FERRARI AND COLNAGO USE SPECIAL COMPUTER TOOLS
Ferrari used state-of-the-art computer tools at the time. For example, they used a engineering technique called finite element analysis. This analysis takes a complex problem and breaks it down into a finite number of simple problems. Additionally, CAD was used to assist in the design of the C35. It was Colnago’s first monocoque carbon fiber road bike, named after their 35th anniversary.
Furthermore, this C35 has something special, a gold-plated Record groupset from Valentino Campagnolo. They utilized the Colnago ‘flying ace of clubs’ with their name engraved on it as well. This was a sign as to Colnago’s long standing relationship with Campagnolo.
Turning the Colnago C35 wheelset is the Campagnolo C Record Oro 35th anniversary crankset. Pedal power was provided by Campagnolo SGR Oro. The 3ttt stem holds onto the 3ttt handlebars which are wrapped with the original Colnago handlebar tape.
First of all, the transmission duties are assigned to the Campagnolo C Record Oro 35 anniversary front and rear derailleurs. Of course, slowing and stopping this beauty down are again Campy C Record Cobalto Oro brake calipers. Likewise, activated by the Campagnolo C Record Oro 35th Anniversary levers.
Last but not least, we have a Campy C Record headset topped off with a San Marco Oro saddle.
